What is Open Data?

Open data is commonly referenced by the Open Definition and Conformant license it operates under. The Open Definition is most succinctly stated as: “Open data and content can be freely used, modified, and shared by anyone for any purpose”. Broomfield’s Raw Data Feed is operating under this definition and the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC-BY-4.0) conformant licensing.

The goal of the Broomfield Raw Data Feed is to encourage access to data managed by the City and County of Broomfield. Although the site does not represent all the public information managed by Broomfield, it is meant to make the most frequently requested and most useful data easily accessible with the intent of adding content over time. Available data is updated regularly. The City and County of Broomfield encourages users to provide feedback on the use of this site.

The Raw Data Feed is a component of Broomfield’s Data Dashboard which presents all of Broomfield’s currently available open access data. For example, Broomfield’s financial and demographic data are also available for access there. Users can download data in various formats, visualize the data in charts and maps where available, and obtain metadata about the information. Users can also subscribe via RSS feed to get notified when the data is updated. Programmers can access APIs that let them use the data without needing to download anything.
